Biden refers to Trump as a “convicted felon” and criticizes his seeking to return to the US presidency

President Joe Biden on Monday considered former Republican president Donald Trump a “convicted felon” days after a jury found him guilty of 34 charges.

Trump last week became the first US president convicted of a crime when a New York jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to cover up a hush payment to a porn star before the 2016 election.

“For the first time in American history, a former president who is a convicted felon is now seeking the office of presidency,” Biden told a small group of donors during a fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Biden also said that Trump's attacks on the United States Justice system are "more damaging."

This Sunday, Trump said that he would accept house arrest or jail following his historic conviction by a New York jury last week, but that it would be difficult for people to accept it.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, four days before Republicans meet to formally choose their presidential candidate, who will face Democratic President Joe Biden in the November election.

Trump has used his conviction to step up his fundraising efforts but has not tried to mobilize his supporters in any other way, in contrast to his comments protesting his 2020 loss to Biden, which were followed by an attack from his supporters on January 6, 2021 at the United States Capitol.
