Robert Kennedy Jr. and Gabbard join Donald Trump's presidential transition team after abandoning their political aspirations

Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump (2017-2021) included former presidential hopefuls Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard in the transition team that will help him prepare his hypothetical "second administration" in case he wins the November 5 elections.

Both Kennedy Jr. and Gabbard were once members of the Democratic ranks, but abandoned their political aspirations to show their public support for Trump.

Kennedy Jr., for his part, suspended his campaign on Friday, although he keeps his name on the ballots in most states, and Gabbard positioned herself at his side on Monday.

"Trump adviser Brian Hughes said they are proud to have both joined the campaign: "We look forward to having their powerful voices as we work to restore America's greatness," he said in a statement released by CNN.

Gabbard unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic primaries in 2020 and left the party two years later, and Kennedy Jr.'s presidential race also began on the Democratic side.

In April of last year, he presented himself as an alternative to US President Joe Biden and announced his aspirations to be the Democratic candidate, but in October he indicated that he was leaving that party to run as an independent, something that he eventually ended up suspending.

On August 16, former President Trump announced a transition team chaired by millionaire allies and family members.

It will be led by Linda McMahon, a wrestling entrepreneur who headed the small business division during Trump's presidency (2017-2021), and Howard Lutnick, the chief executive of the financial institution Cantor Fitzgerald.

In addition to McMahon and Lutnick, who are listed as co-chairs, the team includes the two eldest sons of the New York magnate, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric, as well as the "number two" on his presidential ticket, Ohio Senator JD Vance, as "honorary chair." Kennedy Jr. and Gabbard will now join as honorary co-chairs.
