Kamala Harris Leads Donald Trump by Five Points After Debate, According to Ipsos Poll

EFE.-U.S. Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris holds a five-point lead in national voter intention over her Republican rival, former President Donald Trump, according to a poll conducted after last Tuesday's televised debate.

The survey, conducted by Ipsos for Reuters, shows Harris with 47% of the vote, compared to 42% for Trump, with a margin of error of three percentage points.

The gap between the two candidates has widened by one point, reaching a five-point lead, compared to the last Ipsos poll conducted in late August.

The new poll, which surveyed 1,690 people, was conducted between September 11 and 12, following the September 10 debate between Harris and Trump in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

During the debate, broadcast by ABC, Harris appeared calm and presidential, while Trump came across as irritated and defensive, being corrected several times by the moderators for spreading false information.

According to the Ipsos poll, 52% of respondents believe Harris won the debate, while only 21% thought Trump performed better.

The Democratic campaign has requested another face-off before the November 5 presidential election, but Trump ruled out participating in any further debates with Harris on Thursday.

Due to the U.S. electoral system, the election will be decided in a handful of key battleground states, where polls indicate a very close race between the two candidates.
