The White House sees no issue with a potential meeting between Jill Biden and Vladimir Putin in Mexico: "The First Lady supports Sheinbaum"

EFE - The White House is not concerned about the possibility of First Lady Jill Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin coinciding at the inauguration of Claudia Sheinbaum as president of Mexico.

"No," responded White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre when a reporter asked during a press conference if the administration was worried about the potential meeting between the First Lady and the Russian leader in Mexico.

"The First Lady is looking forward to attending. It’s a historic moment, and her goal is to support the elected president and be there with the US delegation, which she is very excited about. I’m not going to speak about what President Putin will do," the spokesperson added.

Leaders from around the world have been invited to Sheinbaum’s inauguration, including Putin, although the Kremlin has not confirmed his attendance.

Sheinbaum will be inaugurated at the San Lázaro legislative building on October 1, by the President of the Board of Directors, Morena member Ifigenia Martínez, and will later host a lunch for international guests at the National Palace. Among the guests are Gabriel Boric Font, President of Chile; Mohamed Yunus Al-Menfi, President of Libya; and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil.

The elected president issued a statement indicating that, as of Wednesday afternoon, representatives from 105 countries and 22 international organizations have confirmed their attendance.

The statement details that "four vice presidents; four heads of legislative bodies; 17 representatives at the ministerial level; 10 deputy ministers; special envoys, 10 heads of international organizations, as well as resident and concurrent ambassadors" will also attend.

The Mexican politician will be the first woman to take office in Mexico after winning the elections on June 2 against Xóchitl Gálvez, with a record of nearly 36 million votes, almost 60% of the total votes cast.
