Blinken urges Israel to accept Biden's Gaza ceasefire proposal

The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, called on Israel this Sunday to accept the ceasefire proposal presented on Friday by President Joe Biden.

According to a statement from department spokesman Matthew Miller, Blinken spoke this Sunday with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant about the proposal to achieve a total and complete ceasefire in Gaza as part of a hostage agreement that would also allow the increased humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza.

"The secretary praised Israel's willingness to conclude an agreement and stated that the responsibility for accepting it falls on Hamas," the statement said.

Blinken further stressed that the proposal would “promote Israel's long-term security interests” and open the possibility of greater integration in the region, while reaffirming the United States' strong commitment to Israel's security.

Last Friday, President Biden made public a proposal for a consensual truce with Israel in which, in three phases, both parties would reach the permanent ceasefire desired by Hamas and the release of the hostages sought by the Executive of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hamas demands Israeli commitment to “reach an agreement that leads to a comprehensive ceasefire, a complete withdrawal from Gaza, (and) the unrestricted entry of aid to shelter and assist the displaced,” Osama told the Qatari channel Al Jazeera last night. Hamdan, senior Hamas official.

Netanyahu, for his part, assured through a statement from his office on the social network that Gaza no longer represents a “threat” to Israel – they are not going to change.
