The president of the United States, Joe Biden, took advantage of a May 5 celebration at the White House this Monday to criticize the immigration plans of former president and Republican pre-candidate Donald Trump.

He “he wants to use the military to deport more than 11 million people. (…) that does not represent us as a country,” said the Democrat at an event to honor the Mexican-American community.

The president referred to Trump's statements to Time magazine, in which he detailed his plans for a new government if he is elected in November. Among them is using the National Guard and military forces to detain and deport people who do not have legal immigration status in the United States.

Immigration has become one of the central issues in the race for the presidency of the United States, with more than 2% of Americans pointing it out as the country's main “problem,” according to a Gallup poll published in February.

Trump has maintained his anti-immigration speech, echoing the strategy that catapulted him to the presidency in 2016. The current president, for his part, maintained his position regarding those seeking a new life in the United States in comparison with the promises he made In bell.

Facing record migration numbers at the border with Mexico, Biden imposed greater restrictions on the right to asylum, which can only be requested on US soil.

At the same time, after more than three years in office, the Democratic administration has not delivered the promise of offering a path to legal status to the more than 11 million undocumented people.
