US Coast Guard rescues 8 migrant children abandoned on a raft

The United States Coast Guard carried out a rescue of eight children, ages 6 to 13, who were in a deflated raft in the Rio Grande near McAllen, Texas.

The event took place last Tuesday night, when the crew of a Coast Guard Maritime Safety Team boat found the raft with the migrant minors and an adult, presumably a smuggler.

Upon noticing the presence of the authorities, the adult abandoned the raft and swam back to the Mexican side of the river, leaving the children adrift.

The situation became complicated when the raft began to deflate and fill with water, putting the safety of the minors at risk.

Faced with imminent danger, the Coast Guard crew quickly proceeded to rescue the eight children, making sure to bring them to dry land.

They were later handed over to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents, where they received medical attention.

None of the children were injured during the incident, thanks to the prompt intervention of the authorities.
