Several tornadoes hit parts of eastern Nebraska this Friday, leaving at least three people injured as a major storm that could last a few days intensifies in the central United States.

The National Weather Service received at least 60 reports of tornadoes Friday afternoon through 9:30 p.m. ET in at least five states, including Texas, Nebraska and Iowa.

A tornado ripped through the suburbs of Omaha, Nebraska, damaging hundreds of homes, structures and miles of farmland.

Injuries were reported, but no deaths.

“Some houses have been swept away and no longer exist,” Thomas Hinterdorfer, a storm chaser, told CNN.

Videos and photos of heavily damaged houses and crushed trees are circulating on social media.

Likewise, a large tornado was reported to have devastated Lincoln, Nebraska, causing warnings to be sounded. The tornado warning remained in place until tonight.

Omaha's Eppley Airfield, the largest airport serving the region, was briefly closed Friday so officials could assess the damage, according to CNN.

Storms are expected to continue through Sunday, but Saturday could be the most dangerous day, according to local media.

The Meteorological Service alerted citizens that severe thunderstorms could occur on Saturday night, and warned that due to the weather conditions, large hail, damaging winds and multiple tornadoes could occur.
