The president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the first lady, Jill Biden, earned $619,976 in 2023, according to their joint tax return published this Monday by the White House.
Biden and his wife paid $146,629 in federal taxes and made a payment of $30,908 in state taxes in Delaware.
The first lady also paid $3,549 in income taxes in Virginia.
The income of the presidential couple in 2023 increased almost 40 thousand dollars compared to what was reported in 2022, the year in which they earned 579 thousand 514.
In 2021, the Bidens reported gross income of more than $610,000, of which they paid $150,400 in federal taxes.
The White House noted in its statement that Biden believes that “every occupant of the Oval Office must be open and honest with the American people,” and stressed that the tradition of annually publishing presidential tax returns should be continued without interruption.
Biden resumed that tradition after former Republican President Donald Trump refused to publish them during his term.
The House of Representatives ended up making public at the end of 2022 six years of the former president's tax returns, including those corresponding to his four years of presidency.
The White House also published this Monday the income tax return of the Vice President, Kamala Harris, and her husband, Doug Emhoff.
The couple earned $450,299 last year and paid $88,570 in federal taxes and $15,167 in state taxes in California.
