Trump and Kamala are locked in a tight race in seven states with just two weeks to go before the elections: Washington Post poll

Reuters - Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are locked in a tight race across seven battleground states just two weeks before the November presidential elections in the United States, according to a Washington Post/Schar School poll released Monday.

The former Democratic prosecutor led in Georgia with 51% to Trump's 47%, while the Republican candidate held a slight edge in Arizona with 49% to Harris' 46%, both results within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

Harris, who emerged as the party's candidate after President Joe Biden stepped aside this past summer, also had the advantage in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, three states where she campaigned Monday alongside former Republican Representative Liz Cheney.

Trump led in North Carolina and was tied with Harris in Nevada, 48 to 48, according to the survey of 5,016 likely voters conducted between September 30 and October 15.

The former president is set to hold a rally in North Carolina late Monday after surveying the recent damage caused by Hurricane "Helene."

Trump, 78, is running for the White House for the third time in a row after losing to Biden in 2020. He continues to falsely claim widespread electoral fraud and faces federal and state criminal charges for his efforts to overturn the election results, among other charges. Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

Harris, 60, a former local prosecutor, state attorney general, and U.S. senator, is working to rebuild the diverse coalition of young voters, women, and people of color within her party, while also seeking to appeal to some Republicans disillusioned with Trump.

Monday's results echoed other recent polls showing a tight race in the seven battleground states, even as Harris holds a national lead, according to some surveys.

Overall, 49% of likely voters said they supported Kamala Harris, while 48% backed Donald Trump, according to the Post poll.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll from last week showed Harris maintaining a marginal and stable 45%-42% lead over Trump.

However, state-by-state Electoral College results will determine the winner of the November race. The seven battleground states are likely to be decisive, and polling among their likely voters provides a snapshot of the race so far.
