The governor of Florida, Republican Ron DeSantis, assured on Sunday that Florida “is a republican state,” establishing the predominance of conservative ideas in the state, in the midst of President Joe Biden's campaign to win there in the elections. 2024 presidential elections.

In an interview on Fox's “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo, DeSantis said the state is close to having 900,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats.

“Florida is off the board. It is a republican state. You've covered politics. We used to be a one-point state, every election depended on how Florida would go; that is no longer true. And I think that's a good thing for the party,” said the former Republican presidential candidate, as reported by The Hill.

On the reasons why this has changed, DeSantis argued:

“I think migration has been skewed among people who come to Florida not because they want to change policies to reflect them in Illinois, California or New York, but because they appreciate how Florida has done it differently from where they come from.”

Immigration and candidacy

Regarding immigration and President Biden's immigration policies, the governor said that the state has reported many cases of migrants who had been deported several times but who entered again through “Biden's open border” and committed criminal offenses again.

DeSantis also addressed another possible presidential run, following the recent failure, saying he has “no plans” for the future.

“I think we are very focused on all the great things we are doing in Florida. I'm very, very confident that Florida will be a strong showing for Republicans everywhere on the ticket and we've worked very hard to get there to this point. And I'm excited about that,” the governor declared, according to The Hill.

Democrats go for Florida

Despite the data commented by DeSantis about new Republican registrations, Democrats are optimistic about winning Florida in the November elections against former President Donald Trump.

“Make no mistake: Florida is not an easy state to win, but it is a state that President Biden can win, especially given Trump's weak, cash-strapped campaign and serious vulnerabilities within his coalition,” he said in a statement. Julie Chávez Rodríguez, Biden's campaign director, announced last week.
